SHOREA is possibly the best wood choice for outdoor furniture. While related to Burma
teak, this hardwood grows naturally and plentifully in the Pacific Rim countries, making
it considerably less expensive than teak. Because shorea contains an abundance of natural
oils, is dense, heavy and hard, it is highly resistant to rot, bug infestation, wear and
marring. Our shorea is imported from Java, which has been diligently managed by its
government to ensure wise harvesting and fair prices.
Quality construction turns our classic designs and fine raw materials into timeless
furniture. The only thing stronger than the wood is the mortise-and-tenon joinery holding
it together. These joints can withstand generations of usage. The precision craftsmanship
of our mortise cuts and tight-fitting tenons is exceptional.
