You
may think of a garden bench as a great place to sit and rest your
legs, nothing more. If so, you have never seen any decorative benches!
Decorative
benches serve the dual purpose of offering a place
to sit and also adding an element of art to any garden, sidewalk,
or wherever else one is placed.
No, a decorative bench is not one of those benches that you see
at a bus stop with the giant face of a real estate agent spread
across the back support. Although, if you put such a monstrosity
in your backyard, surrounded by beautiful flowers and perhaps a
chandelier hanging from a tree above, it could become a decorative
bench.
Alright, so the aforementioned “decorative bench” is
most likely not the sort of bench that you want to be placing in
your garden. What other options do you have, as far as decorative
benches go?
The limits of your imagination are the only limits to the types
of decorative benches that there are. The only thing that decorative
benches need to have in common is that they all offer a place for
you (and perhaps a loved one) to sit and relax while enjoying the
outdoors.
There are very basic decorative benches – ones made of just
wood, or just metal, and set up simply as a place to sit. But even
these simple ones offer an element of beauty. Simplicity is often
beautiful.
There are other decorative benches that are a bit more, well decorative.
For instance, you can find wooden benches with all sorts of details
carved into them. Or you can find concrete or marble benches that
look like they are from Victorian times, while others have a modern
twist to them – perhaps a bright color painted on or a dip
in the seat, or geometric shapes.
There are even some decorative benches that you may not recognize
as benches, at first, because they seem so much like a decoration
that you feel like a delinquent even thinking about sitting on such
a fine piece of art.
Such a decorative bench might be in the shape of an animal (and
you are to sit on its back, etc.) or even something incredibly abstract,
like some sculpted metal that seems to weave in and out of the ground
like some sort of psychedelic ribbon.
The basic idea is, though benches to not have to be basic. Why
have a bench that is made purely for the basis of sitting when you
can get a decorative bench that is so much more! From austere to
elaborate to crazy, decorative benches can add a lot of style to
anyone’s garden.
